FATHER’S DAY

Sunday, June 16

“Fathering is not something perfect men do, but something that perfects the man.”

— Frank Pittman

Summer Solstice 2024. Thursday, June 20

This solstice marks the official beginning of summer in the Northern Hemisphere, occurring when Earth arrives at the point in its orbit where the North Pole is at its maximum tilt (about 23.5 degrees) toward the Sun, resulting in the longest day and shortest night of the calendar year. (By longest “day,” we mean the longest period of sunlight hours.) On the day of the June solstice, the Northern Hemisphere receives sunlight at the most direct angle of the year.

Strawberry Moon🍓

Friday, June 21, 2024.

June gets a bit fruity and sweet with the arrival of the full moon, called the Strawberry Moon for its association with the peak of strawberry harvesting season.

Its nickname originates with Indigenous people who used the full moon to note the significance of this time of abundance for harvesting strawberries and other foods. Interestingly, the full moon may appear slightly larger near the horizon due to an optical illusion known as the moon illusion.

WHAT IS ALL THAT NOISE?

Cicada:
June is a hot month, especially for the cicada. It’s their prime mating season, and their strange rattling “songs” are a familiar accompaniment in June. Cicadae are symbolic of balance, partnerships and love – it has to do with their mating songs in the summer. As heat-lovers, cicadas are solar-affiliated insects, and thus resonate during the mid-summer month of June.

🌻Flora the Little Shop Garden Explorer🌻

Flora loves working in the Garden with Mom and Dad. She is always ready to help and learn more about all her plants she is growing, but there is one huge component to a successful crop

💧Irrigation💧

Irrigation is essential for maintaining healthy plant growth and ensuring adequate water supply for crops, gardens, and landscapes.

Teaching kids about irrigation can be a valuable educational opportunity to help them understand the importance of water management in agriculture and gardening. By explaining how irrigation systems work, the significance of water conservation, and the impact of proper watering on plant growth, children can develop an appreciation for the role of water in sustaining life and supporting food production. Engaging kids in hands-on activities, such as setting up a small irrigation system or tending to a garden, can make learning about irrigation fun and interactive.

June represents radiant energy, growth, and vitality, both in nature and within ourselves.
