| | Hey Garden Family, Happy New Year! It’s Jeremy here from your favorite garden store. I want to take a moment to say thank you to each and every one of you for your support and business. Being a small business is not easy and it takes community to make a difference, and our community that we are building is amazing. We have been able to meet great people thus far and we are excited to kick off 2024 with a whole new outlook on life and business. If you don’t know by now, I grew up and still live in Sunnyslope where our store is located. The projects that we are currently involved in include, Mountain View Community Garden which is located within Mountain View park on 7th ave and Mountain View rd. Years ago I had the privilege to design and install the garden and now Keep Phoenix Beautiful manages and maintains the garden and they have done an amazing job making the garden what it is today. Although it couldn’t be done without the wonderful community supporting it. Another project that we are part of is at Sunnyslope High School, we are spearheading the garden club at the school and the kids are absolutely thrilled to take part. It’s actually quite amazing what we have been able to accomplish there with the garden club program. Recently we had to pause the program due to the construction and remodeling of the school. Our outdoor garden space was torn down over Christmas break and the future of the program is now in a transition phase and that’s where you, our community, can play a huge role in the future of our garden program. We need donations and community support to rebuild a new garden this spring, and in the meantime, we are implementing an indoor garden program with hydroponics. We need to raise money to purchase several hydroponic Tower Gardens and show the current and future students of SHS what the future of gardening is going to look like. If you would like to donate and contribute to this program, we would greatly appreciate any and all support. Each Tower Garden cost roughly $1200 complete with lighting, dolly and plants. We are using some funding from the school to purchase the first Tower, and our employee Phoxx has a family member willing to pay for the 2nd Tower. Now we are raising money to purchase 1 to 2 more Towers and create something amazing for future generations to learn from. Please consider assisting us in this endeavor, all we are asking is for our community to come together and make a difference in the lives of our future leaders of tomorrow. If you are interested in helping out, please email, come into the store. 100% of donations go directly to the garden club program. It can be cash, check made out to the school, or direct purchase of the Tower Garden through my link jvasquez.towergarden.com, shipping can be directed to the store or the school. Other monies collected will go to the implementation of the outdoor raised garden beds that will be constructed in the spring and ready for use at the start of next school year. Thank you in advance for your kindness, the kids will be enamored by your generosity. As you can probably already tell, I’m very passionate about this project and I am committed to volunteering my time to make this program successful, I just need a little help along the way. I appreciate you and wish you a great 2024. | COMING UP IN JANUARY 2024 | * WORKSHOPS * CLASSES * MEETUPS * COMMUNITY * | Sound & Movement Nichoelle and Tonia are teaming up once again for a night of relaxation and mindfulness. | | | | Benefits of adding Rosemary to your beauty routine
The idea that rosemary oil encourages hair growth may come from the rosemary’s basic health benefits. The plant in essential oil form is said to:
Beyond stimulating hair growth, rosemary essential oil is used to prevent premature graying and dandruff. It may also help dry or itchy scalp.
How to make Rosemary Water at home
Boil 2 cups of water on the stove, then add 3 sprigs of fresh rosemary and let the mixture simmer for 15 minutes. Remove the pot from heat and let it cool for 30 minutes, then strain the water into a spray bottle or a mason jar. Spritz the rosemary water into your hair and work it into your scalp 2-4 times a week to speed up hair growth and cut down on dandruff.
| | Little Flora the garden explorer | | Everyone meet Flora, our Little Shop Garden explorer, Let’s follow Flora in the garden and see what she’s found today. Pumpkins, Squash and Corn oh my!! One of the most important aspects of gardening is correctly identifying your plants. This is especially true for squash, as there are so many different varieties. Incorrect identification can lead to problems with your squash crop, including disease and pests. The term “squash plant” refers to a variety of different plant species within the genus Cucurbita. These include pumpkins, gourds, zucchinis, and other cucurbits. Squash plants have large, flat leaves that are usually green or yellow, If you see a small leaf with a pointy tip, you probably have a pumpkin vine.
