May represents a period of spiritual and natural rebirth

MAY NEWSLETTER

🌷 MAY 🌷

May is often seen as a time of profound transformation and renewal.

This is reflected in the natural world through the blooming of flowers and the warming of the weather, symbolizing a period of awakening and growth.

Flower of the month of MAY

Lily of the Valley & Hawthorn

May’s official birth flowers are lily of the valley and hawthorn. Lily of the Valley is the primary May flower, while hawthorn is the secondary flower.

Lily of the Valley (Convallaria majalis) is an elegant woodland perennial from the asparagus family (Asparagaceae). These plants produce sprays of delicate, nodding white bell-shaped flowers. These exquisite little flowers create a lovely, sweet scent.

As befits the May birth flower, the Lily of the Valley is sometimes known as the May lily. The Lily of the Valley symbolizes romance, happiness, humility, and purity.

Hawthorn (Crataegus genus) is a gorgeous flowering shrub or tree from the rose family (Rosaceae). They are also known as the May tree because it erupts with aromatic white flowers in May. Hawthorn flowers have a pungent, sweet scent and make excellent hedges.

Hawthorn represents beauty, happiness, hope, love, and fertility. Thanks to their thorny branches, hawthorn shrubs also symbolize protection.

May represents a period of spiritual and natural rebirth, where life in all its forms begins to flourish. The month is steeped in cultural and historical significance, with various traditions celebrating its unique energy. Symbolism in May extends from natural phenomena like blooming flowers to more profound spiritual themes of growth and renewal.

WOW! Looks like Flora has been busy shopping for some new plants.

Mom and Dad always make sure to include Flora in all the decision making when it comes to what’s growing in the garden. Including kids in the garden can have numerous benefits. It provides them with hands-on learning experiences about nature, plants, and the environment. It also encourages physical activity, learning to grow your own food can help children develop patience, problem-solving skills, and a greater appreciation for the natural world.

Cooking with your kiddos is important for several reasons. It helps them develop essential life skills such as following instructions, measuring ingredients, and understanding the importance of nutrition. Cooking together also provides an opportunity for quality bonding time and can strengthen family relationships. Additionally, involving children in meal preparation can encourage them to try new foods and develop healthy eating habits. Overall, cooking with children not only teaches them practical skills but also fosters creativity, confidence, and a sense of accomplishment.

Connection with Love and Beauty

May is often linked to love and beauty, influenced by its connection to Venus, the goddess of love. This month is seen as a time to celebrate love in all its forms, from romantic to platonic to self-love.

It’s a period that encourages us to appreciate beauty in the world and to express love more freely and openly.

This month encourages us to express our creativity, whether through art, gardening, or other creative endeavors.

It’s a time to let our inner beauty shine and share our unique gifts with the world.

THE FLOWER MOON – MAY 23rd 2024

The Flower Moon is the first full moon of May and gets its name from the bounty of flowers growing in unison in May.

The Full Moon of May is known as Flower Moon to signify the flowers that bloom during this month. Native Americans called it Budding Moon, Egg Laying Moon, and Planting Moon.

The Anglo-Saxon name for May’s brightest Moon phase is Milk Moon from the Old English Rimilcemona. It means three-milkings-month in modern English because cows were milked three times a day during this time of year. The Celtic and Old English names are Mothers’ Moon, Bright Moon, Hare Moon, and Grass Moon.

Many wildflowers bloom in May in the Northern Hemisphere, where these traditional Full Moon names originated. For example, many types of anemone, wild garlic, indigo, bluebells, lupine, sundrops, and violets, to name just a few. It is no wonder that the colorful displays these flowers create in nature have inspired people to call this time after them.
